Malappuram: The Centre intends to introduce "biometric features" in all diplomatic and official passports as per international standards by the end of 2007, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said on Monday.
Speaking after opening a passport office here, Ahamed said these e-passports would have a chip containing all the personal partriculars of the passport holder, facial image and fingerprint data.
It would also have additional security features in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. "This will be extended to the ordinary passports subsequently," he said.
