In a surprising twist, police on Wednesday arrested Mohammed Shafique, the Hyderabadi who was deported from Britain and reached here on Tuesday. Deputy commissioner of police, North, Shikha Goel said Shafique was arrested under Section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code for “moving under suspicious circumstances.” Ms Goel said Shafique could not produce his B.Com certificate, though he had claimed that he was travelling to the US for a business programme. He only had a Class 10 certificate. Police found that Shafique was previously charged with threatening legislator Malreddy Ranga Reddy. That pertains to an incident in 2004 when a team of the Gujarat police shot dead one Mujahid Salim Ishai while arresting Maulana Naseeruddin in connection with the Haren Pandya murder. Shafique allegedly called up Mr Ranga Reddy and threatened him after the killing. The counter intelligence police had been tracking him after that case.
