Pune: The Lohegaon airport, which is among the 10 profit-making airports from 127 in the country, has registered a whopping 172 per cent increase in profits in 2005-06 over the previous year.
The operational profit of this otherwise tiny airport rose from Rs 5.01 crore in 2004-05 to Rs 13.65 crore in 2005-06. In 2003-04, the airport had registered a profit of barely Rs 3.41 crore.
"This is a quantum jump, made possible due to the extension of watch hours, which resulted in more airliners operating to-and-from Pune," an ecstatic airport director, Capt. Deepak Shastri, told TOI on Tuesday.
He attributed this growth to the introduction of international operations (Dubai and Singapore since December last year) "and more importantly, increase in business activity in the city and its adjoining areas".
