Chandigarh: In international airports at both Mumbai and Delhi, what one sees in greater numbers are turbaned heads of Sikhs either going or coming from abroad. And with a large chunk of Punjab's farmers increasingly sending their children away from the farm and into foreign shores, airlines — not surprisingly — are queuing up to cash in on the traffic overflow.
Now, keeping in mind the emerging and very profitable international airport at Amritsar, two big airlines, Indus Airways and Jagson Airlines, have substantial plans to set up business at the Chandigarh airport.
Though Indus Airways is yet to finalise its launch date here, Jagson Airlines plans to start early September. While Indus Airways will operate flights on the Delhi-Chandigarh-Mumbai route, Jagson Airlines is eyeing the Delhi-Chandigarh-Pathankot and Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar routes.
