Restoration of air link to Tajikistan under study

New Delhi: On the Tajikistan President Emomali S. Rahmonov's talks with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier in the day for revival of direct air link to Dushanbe, Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan B. Jaishankar said the matter was under study.
At issue, as the Tajikistan President, are malpractices by agents on both sides that have led to the curtailment of the air link.
'Air Tajik agents on both sides are at fault for this situation leading to the cancellation of direct flight that had been operational between the two countries from 2003 till March this year,' President Rahmonov said.
He said the issue revolved around a large sum of $340,000, a part of which goes to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) as unpaid taxes.
The matter is expected to be resolved during Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahmad's visit to Tajikistan possibly later this month.
