New Delhi: Security norms on flights to UK just for tougher. The British authorities now want advance information on personal details of all air travellers arriving in UK as part of a security profiling measure.
Industry sources say advance screening of passengers would not only allow British authorities to look for known terrorists on watchlists, but also to broadly search through itinerary data to identify people who may be linked to terrorists.
Under the new norms, which will come into effect from September 18, airlines have been mandated to provide UK authorities with passenger information — like name, passport number, visa number, nationality, date of birth and gender — before the flight takes off for UK, sources told TOI.
While Jet Airways officials confirmed that the airline has received the advance passenger information notice from UK, officials at British Airways and Air India said they are yet to receive any such notice.
