New Delhi: Passengers flying on US air carriers are being segregated from other travellers at Delhi airport following an alert that terrorists plan to bomb two US airliners flying out of Delhi or Mumbai.
The intelligence, received on Tuesday, indicated that Continental Airlines and American Airlines were targeted for mid-air explosions. The perpetrators intend to board the aircraft in India. Representatives for both carriers were unavailable for comment. Since then, there's been a high alert, and passengers of these airlines have been routed to their planes through a separate security hold, so that they don't get mixed with passengers of other airlines.
More exhaustive checks, including manual searches of even checked-in baggage, have been put in place. Passengers are being discreetly but intensively profiled. Security sources confirmed the drill.
