ATF prices hiked, air fares set to rise

Mumbai: The unabated northward march of aviation turbine fuel prices is forcing airlines to increase their ticket prices. With oil marketing companies increasing the prices of ATF for the sixth consecutive month, domestic air travel is set to become costlier with airlines planning to raise their fuel surcharge from Rs 650 to Rs 750.
‘‘The increasing ATF prices has forced us to contemplate increasing the fuel surcharge by a quantum of Rs 100,’’ Air Deccan director finance Mohan Kumar said.
Public sector oil marketing companies have yesterday increased prices of ATF by over 4 per cent. Airlines like GoAir, SpiceJet Indian Airlines are also contemplating increasing the surcharge. “Yes we are discussing increasing the surcharge which could be between Rs 50-100. We are likely to finalise the hike by Monday,” GoAir managing director Jeh Wadia said.
A Jet Airways official also confirmed the proposed increase.
