Boeing zeroes in on land for maintenance facility

Nagpur: A high-level team from Boeing International — led by its vice-president (commercial) Dinesh Keskar — landed in the city on Friday on a site survey for Boeing's proposed Rs 500-crore aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) unit.
"We have identified land around the runway at the city airport for the project. We may need 70 to 100 acres of land to set up the workshop and apron space for parking the planes,"Keskar said after talks with officials of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), a JV between the state government and Airports Authority of India.
"Initially, we plan to service only planes of the India aviation industry at the MRO."he said.
As part of a deal struck with Air India for 68 planes, Boeing agreed to set up the MRO in Nagpur. The facility is expected to be operational by 2008.
