Kolkata: The CPI(M) is split over the issue of building a second greenfield airport in the city. While chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is lobbying hard for a greenfield airport, party MP Tarit Baran Topdar, who’s member of the Parliamentary consultative committee on civil aviation, today said a second airport in the city would not be viable now.
Echoing the views of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel, who was in Kolkata today, Topdar said what the city needs more is improvement of infrastructure at the existing airport.
He also claimed to be expressing the state government’s opinion, and that he was not contradicting the chief minister’s views in any way.
