Air India has relaxed strict new security measures, in response to protest by passengers, it was announced in Bahrain yesterday. Passengers will now be allowed to carry laptops, cameras and mobile phones on board aircraft as cabin baggage.
"This comes into force with immediate effect," said Bahrain and Jordan area manager M N Naik.
"We have been petitioned by several passengers over the last few weeks to relax the rules."
But Mr Naik said the ban on liquids and all duty free purchases would continue. The only exceptions are travel documents, cash, jewellery, medicines (accompanied by doctors' prescriptions), other documents (school certificates and medical certificates among others) and infant food (allowed only if an infant is travelling).
