Thiruvananthapuram: Decks have been cleared for the construction of a world-class terminal for the Thiruvananthapuram international airport with the Union Government giving its nod for the Rs.258-crore airport modernisation project.
This was conveyed to Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar during talks with Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate work on the new airport terminal in October.
Mr. Patel also announced the sanctioning of Rs.70 crore for Air-India's engineering base. The State Government had recently handed over 6.07 hectares of land in the vicinity of the airport free to the national carrier to set up the unit.
