Mumbai: For the 200 Indian employees of US-based Delta Airlines, the new Boeing 777-200 LR, which can fly 16 hours non-stop, may sound a death knell. From November this year, Delta's Mumbai-Paris-New York flight will be operated as a non-stop flight to New York, thanks to the Boeing 777s.
However, in the process, jobs of the Mumbai-based staffers are likely to become redundant. Reason: the debt-ridden airline wants to outsource the Indian crew's jobs to an American team.
"About 200 of Delta's Indian employees, including cabin crew and other staff from the ticketing, sales and marketing department, are under pressure from airline management to take voluntary retirement," said a source.
