New Delhi: The CPI(M) made common cause with the DMK against the disinvestment of Neyveli Lignite Corporation but the southern ally has gone its own way on the issue of airport modernisation. The Tamil Nadu government has chosen to take the private route to modernise the Chennai airport while the CPI(M) has all along insisted that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) be given the contract in metros.
The Civil Aviation Ministry had earlier decided to give the modernisation projects for Delhi and Mumbai airports to private parties. With the DMK deciding that private parties should handle the Chennai project, of the four metros, only the Kolkata Netaji Subhas Airport contract may go to the AAI.
The Left is clearly upset by the development.
