Mumbai: The Travel Agents Federation of India's (TAFI) management committee has cleared a proposal to induct non-IATA agents as allied members in what is being viewed as a historic initiative in the Indian travel trade towards sub-agent recognition.
TAFI's new management committee met for the first time in Delhi (since elections were held last month in Mumbai) where the association's relations with the non-IATA committee were discussed. The president and general secretary of TAFI have both informally communicated with the Enterprising Travel Agents Association's (ETAA) president, Karl Dantas, regarding the same. ETAA is the only recognised non-IATA (sub-agent) organisation in the country today. TAFI expects to add a huge percentage of the estimated 40,000 non-IATA agents to its existing membership base.
