Chennai: A bomb hoax delayed President APJ Abdul Kalam's flight to Delhi by three hours on Monday night.
Authorities in Chennai received a call saying there was an explosive on board the President's jet. The call proved to be a hoax.
There was high drama around President Kalam's special jet at the old airport in Chennai at the end of his two-day visit to the state.
While the President was entertaining his guests at the airport just before departure, a telephone call at the South Chennai police control room warned of a bomb in the aircraft at 10:30 PM in Tamil. The call sent security officials into a tizzy. The President's staff who had by then boarded the plane were quickly deplaned and all the luggage were off loaded for a thorough X-ray check.
After two and half hours the bomb disposal squad finally found the call to be a hoax.
