It happens only with Air-India. At a time when air safety is a cause of concern, the country’s premier carrier does not have a security chief. And that, too, for the last two-and-a-half-months.
Hassan Gaffoor was the national carrier’s last security director, but he returned to his parent Maharashtra cadre. The post is not yet filled up.
Jitendra Bhargava, Director, Public Relations, A-I, told DNA that Gaffoor had gone back to the parent cadre and they were expecting a replacement soon.
According to Home Ministry sources, the present Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satish Mathur’s name had been recommended to the Union Ministry to join A-I as Gaffoor’s successor.
But Mathur said that he had not been intimated by anyone on the new post. Interestingly, Gaffoor himself is now without any charge, but is posted in the Director General of Police’s office at Colaba.
