Kolkata: Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Monday, expressed scepticism about the prospects of setting up a greenfield airport here, saying that proper modernisation of the existing one would help meet the needs for many years to come.
The West Bengal Government was in favour of setting up a greenfield airport near the city, but it had to be seen whether the project would be viable or not, he said at a press conference.
He said if the current airport was being modernised in the correct manner and fashion, then it would be able to sustain the requirements of the city for many years.
The broad policy of the Government was to encourage setting up of greenfield airports, Patel said.
