New Delhi: With the Indian aviation sector projected to add about 450 aircraft in the next five years, industry body CII has recommended a strong maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) infrastructure in the country.
The CII civil aviation committee has called for captive MRO operations given the virtual absence of credible third party MRO facilities in the country.
Exponential growth is projected in the aviation sector and this would provide an impetus to the MRO activity in India, CII national committee chairman for civil aviation and Air India CMD V Thulasidas said in a statement.
The MRO industry has potential to grow by 400 million dollar annually over the next 5 years, the chamber said. India also needs to address regulatory and infrastructural limitations for it to emerge as an MRO hub for the region, CII said.
