Srinagar: International flights won’t land in the Valley for the time being as the upgradation work on Srinagar Airport which was scheduled to be completed in March this year has been delayed. The ambitious project would now be completed by June 2007.
The project completion has been delayed as construction on the airport building had to be stopped during winters “due to inclement weather,” a senior official of Airport Authority of India (AAI), which takes care of airports, told Greater Kashmir.
The work on the project started in late 2004 but it had to be stopped due to heavy snowfall. The work was re-started and expedited from May 2005, the official said.
