Several airlines have cut fuel surcharges over the past month as oil costs declined.
Qantas Airways Ltd, Australia's biggest airline, lowered its fuel surcharges by eight percent for international routes, the first cut since May 2004.
The cuts will save passengers between US$10 to US$15 on a one-way flight.
"If prices continue to fall, we will extend the reductions to our domestic surcharges, which were not included in the most recent increase in August 2006, and look at further reductions to our international surcharges," said Geoff Dixon, chief executive officer of Qantas.
The Australian carrier reduced the levy for flights between Australia and Asia, the Pacific region and Honolulu to US$105 from US$115 for tickets issued from two days ago. The surcharge for flights between Australia and the United States, Canada, South America and India dropped to US$133 from US$145.
