Ahmedabad: Three years after he was subjected to the embarrassment and shock of being grilled for over four hours at the airport in an alien country by officials speaking Swahili with a few words of English thrown in, Dipesh Patel of Anand has finally got justice.
Patel, a businessman from Anand, was detained by Nairobi airport authorities at the behest of Gulf Airlines, for travelling on a stolen ticket.
Patel had bought Mumbai-Nairobi-Mumbai ticket for Rs 21,100 from a travel agency. With the airline officials refusing to allow him to travel on the fake ticket, Patel was forced to buy a fresh ticket to return home.
Gujarat Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has directed Kirit Patel of CP Travels and Tours, Anand and Sachinam Travels Private Limited, Ahmedabad to pay Rs 53,000 with nine per cent interest for negligence and Rs 5,000 as compensation towards mental and physical harassment caused to Patel.
