By 2010, A-380 can land in Mumbai

Mumbai: *The Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower at the Mumbai international airport will be relocated in the next few years.
*There will be no parallel runway in addition to the existing runways. Instead, the cross runway operations will be strengthened.
*Three gates designed for the double-decker A-380, the world’s largest and yet-to-fly aircraft, will be in place by 2010.
That’s a small taste of what the country’s busiest airport will offer to domestic and international travellers by 2010. These and a bevy of other plans are part of a confidential 20-year masterplan just submitted by the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Dubbed as the ‘‘toughest airport assignment’’ in aviation circles, the modernisation and upgradation of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) will be done at a cost of Rs 5,800 crore over the next seven years by MIAL.
