Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the stall owners at Juhu beach to pay dues to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) by Wednesday.
Eighty stall owners who were relocated as part of the Juhu beautification project have been directed to pay their arrears amounting to Rs 6,40,000 by Wednesday. As of now, they have already paid AAI an amount of Rs 23,60,000 and there is a dispute regarding the remaining Rs 32 lakh which amounts to a total of Rs 62 lakh.
A division bench of Justices R M Lodha and N H Patil on August 10 had directed the hawkers to pay Rs 30 lakh out of the Rs 62 lakh arrears. The bench then directed the AAI to recover the rest of the arrears as per law. The direction has been passed based on a public interest litigation filed by Save Juhu Beach Committee with the intention of beautifying the beach and keeping it free of encroachments.
