Singapore: Singapore Airlines (SIA) Ltd said Monday it will buy 20 aircraft from the Boeing Company for 4.52 billion US dollars with an option for another 20 planes.
The 787-9s will be used on routes to the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and North America.
The purchase confirms plans that were announced last June.
The 787-9 can carry up to 298 passengers and has space for about 20 tons of cargo.
SIA, which is scheduled to become the first carrier to operate the Airbus A380, said separately it was waiting for firm details about the latest delay in the production of the superjumbo.
