AAI identifies site near Rajgurunagar for airport

Pune: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has identified a 1,000-hectare site near Rajgurunagar as a ‘very probable’ location for the city’s independent airport. An AAI planning department team, which carried out a survey of the site last month, has now asked the State government to provide detailed meteorological data of the area before finalising its report.
The team has reported that the flight approach routes to the Rajgurunagar site are clear of obstacles and it would be suitable for an airport if the meteorological data is cleared. “Our team has been to Rajgurunagar and found it a possible site, provided the meteorological data is suitable. We have asked the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to submit us the details,” AAI Executive Director, Planning TK Das told Newsline.
He added that if the meteorological data is found suitable, work would begin on drawing up the alignment plan for the single runway.
