Airlines get freedom to change schedules

New Delhi: Cruising forward on plans to dismantle red-tapism in the Indian skies and minimise passenger inconvenience, the government has now decided to grant domestic airlines the freedom to change flight schedules mid-season and mount special and chartered flights for clearing passenger rush without any prior permission.
Effectively, scheduled airlines can now amend an approved flight schedule in the middle of a season with just the approvals from the points of origin and destination.
However, the airlines will have to inform DGCA about the changes and produce a genuine reason for reschedulement.
Also, the airlines now do not have to knock on the doors of DGCA every time they intend to mount a special extra section flight or a chartered operation. Such flights can now be put in operation with just the approval from the air-traffic controllers (ATC) at both the point of origin and the destination.
