Cat to limit flight disruptions in Delhi

New Delhi: Gearing up to face the winter fog, Delhi airport authorities on Tuesday said they expected less flight disruptions this time, even as they were setting up an emergency response centre to help passengers deal with changes in flight schedules due to fog.
Enough pilots have been trained on the CAT-III B instrumentation landing system compared to last year, said Arun Arora, of the Delhi International Airport Private Limited (DIAL).
"The airlines have communicated that they now have sufficient pilots trained on CAT-III B. So we expect flight disruptions to take place only if the fog is really bad," he said.
Ten aircraft parking stands in the domestic terminal are already equipped to handle CAT-III B equipped planes and an additional nine are expected to be installed soon, P P Singh, associate general manager (operations) of dial, told a press conference here. Using CAT-III B system, planes can operate even when visibility is as low as 50 metres. Vehicles equipped with fog lamps and a special equipment called `follow me vehicle' would be used to guide aircraft on the ground through fog, he said.
