Chennai: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued Expression of Interest (EOI) for construction of a domestic air terminal here. A team of global design architects, who were short-listed, will be here on November 14 for holding discussions.
"The new domestic gateway will be constructed adjacent to the existing arrival hall of the Kamaraj Domestic Terminal (KDT) and the AAI Administrative offices building," Dinesh Kumar, Chennai Airport Director told The Hindu on Monday.
Domestic Terminal-II would not only be futuristic in design but would also cater to the growing volume of passenger traffic as many new players were entering the race.
Of the 19 parking bays being added in a phased manner at a cost of Rs. 37 crore, work on five bays equipped to handle Airbus-320 aircraft had been completed along with the "taxi track link." Two Boeing-747 parking bays were commissioned in the international apron area in July and two Boeing-737-900 aircraft parking stands in the domestic apron in September. Work on the remaining 10 parking bays and two new "taxiing links" would be completed next year, the Airport Director said.
