Srinagar: The divisional consumers protection forum has directed the Jet Airways to pay a compensation of Rs 53,000 to the vice chancellor of the Kashmir University for insulting him and refusing him a seat on a plane despite his having a valid ticket. The vice chancellor, Prof. Abdul Wahid, had filed a complaint with the consumers forum against the aviation company saying that its officials had barred him from boarding a plane at the Jammu airport with the pretext that no seats were vacant.
Prof. Wahid said that he was humiliated despite having a confirmed ticket and suffered mental agony because of the incident.
District and sessions judge, Rasheed Ahmad Lone, M I Kirmani and Aamina Farooqui took strong note of the complaint and directed Jet Airways to pay Prof Wahid Rs 50,000 as compensation and an additional Rs 3000 as litigation charges within four months.
