Rajkot: Tension gripped Rajkot airport on Tuesday when a parcel on a Jet Airways flight was thought to be a book bomb and caused a scare.
An immediate investigation by the bomb squad, however, revealed that the parcel bound for Uttar Pradesh was only a cell phone and charger wrapped by the sender to avoid any damage and pilferage.
The Rajkot police, however, have seized the parcel for further investigation.
The parcel was a lover’s gift from one Amit Kumar, an employee with Indian Navy at Valsura in Jamnagar district, to his fiancee in Uttar Pradesh.
Prior to the morning flight take-off, a computer scan revealed what appeared to be a book but triggered suspicions of a book bomb when a cellphone, charger and a battery also flashed on the screen of the machine.
Investigations revealed that two depressions were made in a book to place the cell phone and charger.
