New Delhi: The North Eastern Council has decided to propose introduction of a number of flights exclusively for the eight states of the Northeast during its meeting later this month. The groundwork for the proposal has been done by infrastructure services giant, Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited (IL&FS).
A private airline operator, which has reportedly run successful operations in Bhutan and Nepal, has agreed to venture into the region, a source said. Another private airline is also being approached for introduction of services in the region.
Small planes like the Beechcraft have been proposed for operations to 10 locations within the Northeast. The network will later extend to 19 locations.
The concept will be discussed at the NEC meeting on November 15-16. Governors and chief ministers from the region will attend the meeting.
