New Delhi: The Delhi Government and related agencies have set a November 30 deadline for residents of Nangal Dewat village to move to an alternative site so that work can begin on a third IGI Airport runway ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
After Delhi High Court intervened, the Delhi Government has set November 22 as the deadline for settling all compensation claims by villagers. Villagers will be evicted if they do not move out of Nangal Dewat, which has a population of over 13,000 according to the 2001 census, by November 30.
The Airports Authority of India had paid compensation to the villagers to move out but the new management - the GMR-led consortia - has now offered to pay them six months’ rent if they move out before the deadline.
To speed up the process, even the DDA, which is allotting plots to eligible villagers at Rangpuri village in southwest Delhi, has told the allottees to take possession by the deadline or their entitlement will be cancelled, government sources said.
