Chennai: 48-year-old man was detained on suspicion of being a Pakistani national after he arrived here from Frankfurt by a Lufthansa flight, airport and police officials said on Tuesday.
Syed Akthar gave contradictory statements while being questioned on his arrival here on Monday night and officials suspect he is a Pakistani, the officials said.
Akhtar, who held a genuine German passport, claimed he was here to attend a conference when he asked about the purpose of his visit, they said.
After questioning him for several hours, immigration officials brought the matter to the notice of authorities in New Delhi and are awaiting further orders, the officials added.
