Singapore: Viva Macau, the first discount carrier based in the southern Chinese city, said it plans to start services to Jakarta this month and intends to serve long-haul destinations including India in the future.
The airline hoped to get its licence to operate flights in about a week, chief executive officer Andrew Pyne said in an interview. Aside from India, it was also looking to offer chartered flights to Sydney, Dubai and Moscow, Pyne said yesterday.
Viva Macau hopes to capitalise on rising travel demand as casino operators including Las Vegas Sands Corp increase their investment in the former Portuguese colony. Seven airlines including discount carriers Singapore-based Tiger Airways Pte and Malaysia's AirAsia Bhd presently fly to the city, the only place in China where casinos are legal.
