Pune: The 70:30 Hindalco-Almex Aerospace joint venture will be located at the 250-acre SEZ at Shendra, near Aurangabad. This follows the notification issued by the Centre on December 22 for an aluminium processing SEZ there. While the Aditya Birla Group company declined to comment, state government sources said the issuing of the notification has now cleared the path. “We expect them (the JV company) to make a formal application now that the notification has been issued,” top government sources said.
The sources added the agreement should be signed soon as Hindalco has already visited the site last week. Maharashtra has been trying to develop an aerospace focus, with Boeing having decided to set up its MRO (maintenance repair organisation) at Nagpur. The Shendra aluminium processing SEZ is expected to be aviation-aeropsace focused, thanks to this anchor tenant.
