New Delhi:People flying into or out of Delhi have a harrowing day ahead since dense fog has reduced runway visibility at the airport to zero.
Some flights have been cancelled while several flights have been delayed.
Although almost all airlines are now CAT 2 and CAT 3 compliant, none of them can operate in zero visibility conditions.
Jet and Sahara are CAT 2 compliant, which means they can fly in a visibility range between 750 metres and 550 metres.
Indian, Kingfisher and Indigo are CAT III compliant, and so they can fly in a lower visibility range between 550 and 350 metres.
Infact, Indian can fly even when visibility is below 350 metres upto a minimum of 150 metres.
And the pattern of fog in Delhi is also unique. While in Europe, fog sets in over a period of time, thereby giving time to the airline to plan for cancellations, in Delhi it settles in very quickly.
