Mumbai: The public sector oil companies’ monopoly over the supply of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) to Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) could soon come to an end. The GVK-led consortium, which has the mandate to modernise MIAL, has sent notices to oil PSUs, including BPCL, IOC and HPCL, stating that the lease period for some of their terminals had expired.
MIAL also said it had already received expressions of interest from private sector players, whose proposals seem “good commercial propositions”.
With this, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), which has already received approval from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to set up its ATF business at 25 non-metro airports, could make an entry into metro airports for the supply of ATF, according to industry sources. RIL officials declined to comment on the issue.
