New Delhi: The distance between Communist-ruled states and the rest of India will increase on Thursday with almost all domestic airlines announcing suspension of services to destinations in West Bengal and Kerala. Indian, Jet Airways, Sahara , Kingfisher, IndiGo and Air Deccan have announced that their aircraft won’t fly to these states because of the general strike called by Left unions.
The Left unions have been resorting to chest thumping to make up for the Left leaders ‘supping with the enemy’ — the reform-friendly Congress.
For chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the strike should not have come at a more inopportune time. He has been trying to use the ‘Singur resolve’ to win over the investing community, a group that’s quite suspicious of the Left. With over 100 flights cancelled to the state, Thursday’s strike would be a disastrous advertisement.
