New Delhi: A photojournalist was roughed up by a Delhi Police official Thursday and his camera smashed while he was taking pictures of the general strike called by Airports Authority of India - staff.
B.B. Chaudhary, assistant commissioner of police posted at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, manhandled Kamal Singh of the Press Trust of India -. He snatched Singh's camera and smashed it on the road.
Singh has filed a written complaint against Chaudhary at the Indira Gandhi International Airport police station. He said in his complaint that the police official had also threatened him with dire consequences.
'We have come to know of the incident and we will take appropriate action,' said K.K. Paul, police commissioner, Delhi.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has stepped in to look into the matter. It is preparing a separate report on the incident, which would be sent to higher ups in the civil aviation ministry.
