Passengers on a flight from Sharjah delayed for 16 hours say they were insulted by staff who mocked them for using a budget airline. The All India Airport Users’ Forum (AIAUF), representing the passengers of the Air India Express flight from Sharjah to Calicut, India, claims the passengers were insulted after they demanded an explanation for the 16-hour delay of their flight on Tuesday.
The passengers claim they were told by airline staff they were only “dhs501 passengers” and would not be offered free hotel accommodation.
But Air India accused the passengers of ‘rowdy behaviour’ at the airport. “It was an unexpected problem that occurred after the flight landed here,” said a spokesperson for the airline.
The spokesperson added it is unreasonable to expect hotel accommodation when their tickets were cheap “What do they expect from a budget airline? We offered them a full refund of their ticket but are in no position to give them hotel stay.”
