The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police on Wednesday arrested Imran Mohd Shaikh, 27, who allegedly duped credit card users to the tune of Rs13.47 crore by fraudulently selling Kingfisher airlines tickets.
Last month, Kingfisher airlines lodged a complaint with the Vile Parle police station that they had received complaints from people saying that tickets of Kingfisher airlines were being bought in their names without their knowledge. The case was later transferred to the EOW.
Accused Imran Shaikh used to bribe the staff working in malls, big shops and hotels, who would hand over the credit card data of their customers to him. After collecting this data, Imran would go online and book tickets of Kingfisher airlines from the numerous credit card details he had. “Imran has collected a database of more than 15,255 credit cards and used them to buy airline tickets online. He would then sell them. According to a conservative estimates, the fraud amounts to Rs13.47 crore. We are still investigating and the amount may go up,” an officer said.
