Deccan Lanka holds back global operations

Bangalore: Deccan Lanka, the Sri Lankan subsidiary of homegrown aviation company Deccan Aviation Pvt Limited has held back its plans to launch international operations, owing to the unstable political situation in the island country.
The Sri Lankan joint venture, in which Deccan Aviation holds an equity stake of 48%, had earlier planned to fly ATRs to connect Columbo to South Indian cities at low costs. Officials said that while initial plans were to launch the operations in September last, they were put on hold in view of the tightened tension between the Tamil rebels and the government there.
Deccan Lanka’s license to operate international flights from Columbo had already lapsed a few months ago.
