New Delhi: Air passengers had a harrowing time with fog throwing life out of gear on Sunday night and Monday morning in the Capital.
"The children are aged one-and-a-half, three and seven years. We all were made to wait for hours at the security hold area of Chennai airport. There was no milk for the children and no hot water either that could be used for mixing with milk powder," said Pravin Agarwal, who was travelling with his family from Chenai to Delhi.
The New Year-eve fog led to other horror tales too. An Austrian Airline plane to Vienna left the aerobridge around 3.30 am and then went to a taxiway near the runway, waiting for visibility to increase to 200 metres before it could take off. But that didn’t happen and it finally returned to the terminal at 8 am. For four-and-a-half hours, passengers remained seated inside without the plane taking off — it finally flew around 4 pm.
Passengers on board a US airliner flying into Delhi also had a harrowing time. The plane was first diverted to Islamabad and waited for some time there before taking off for Delhi again. But again, it got diverted to Mumbai.
Such disruptions may not stop for the next few days. IGI Met director R K Jenamani said that thick fog is expected for the next 24 hours.
