New Delhi: NDTV has learnt that the Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) has officially stated its `voice of dissent' to the DGCA's new Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) on flying hours for pilots.
If implemented, the CAR will require Indian pilots to fly longer and rest less than any major international carrier.
It is because the time given to pilots to recover from jet lag and fatigue has been dramatically cut short, despite statements by senior airline officials and pilots that they were so tired at the controls that they were flying into danger.
For a typical nine hour flight, Indian pilots would be allowed 18 hours rest before being allowed to fly again.
Singapore Airlines, British Airways and Austrian Airlines are among a host of leading airlines which require their pilots to rest for 72 hours or 54 hours more than what the DGCA recommends in its new CAR.
