Fog freezes IGI operations for five hours

New Delhi: After a brief respite on Tuesday afternoon, dense fog again hit IGI for five hours early on Wednesday morning.
From midnight to 5.30 am, the visibility was so poor that 22 flights had to be diverted and only a few CAT III B movements could take place.
Luckily fog started lifting so dramatically that by 10.30 am visibility was good enough to use both the runways and start clearing the massive backlog that's accumulated over the last few days.
But the huge rush and early morning fog meant that a delay of up to four hours was common for many flights. For example, Jet Airways faced delays ranging from 4 hours to 25 minutes.
Trying to clear the backlog in the remaining 'usable' hours as no one knows when fog would strike again meant that 12 flights had to be cancelled and 11 rescheduled.
And once again, a large number of passengers complained that airlines hadn't informed them of delays and they had no option but to keep waiting outside the small IB terminal.
