New Delhi: The Delhi airport is on high alert for not only security reasons. With the period from November to April being a brisk time for narcotics trade, Customs officers at the international terminal here are at their vigilant best during this time.
Living up to this pattern, three alleged drug peddlers have been nabbed at the airport in the past two months. The Narcotics Control Bureau caught a Singaporean national allegedly trying to smuggle out 8.3 kg of hashish this past month.
"The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) nabbed a Thai national attempting to smuggle out 1.3 kg of heroin. A Japanese was also caught with 0.6 kg of hashish," said an official.
Apart from drugs, Customs has also seized over Rs. 1 crore of currency in the past two months. A large amount of the money recovered, is believed to been raised through drug deals or other criminal activities.
