Ahmedabad:The country's diamond hub of Surat will have a airport by May, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said on Friday.
Talking to reporters after inspecting the airport being built at Surat, he said it was need for the future development of the city.
The people of Surat and especially those associated with the diamond business have been demanding an international airport for long.
Replying to a question whether the airport will be made an international one, he said the Government is thinking about this.
He said, the runway has been increased from 4,500 feet to 7,500 feet and the airport will have facilities for night landings and take-offs.
