Visakhapatnam: With flights not being able to operate for the last 10 days from this port city due to smog caused by industrial pollutants, pressure is mounting on the AP Pollution Control Board to step in and regulate the contamination caused by these units.
Sources suggest that fed up with the state of affairs, eight of the 23 software companies that were sanctioned sites in the port city, have put in a soft threat. They said that if things are not rectified, they might pull out.
Vizagites heaved a sigh of relief when an Air Sahara flight could land on Sunday, the first aircraft in and out of the city in the last 10 days.
A visibly relieved airport controller C Pattabhi was hopeful that normalcy would be restored in the next couple of days.
Experts say the smog stays in the atmosphere when the wind speed drops below four metres per second. Due to this, visibility goes below 4,500 metres and an aircraft cannot land and take off in these conditions.
