With direct flights to Gaya pilgrims number rises to 300,000.

Gaya's tourism industry was fairly modest before Indian Airlines, Druk Air and Thai Airways International launched scheduled services.
This is surprising given that Gaya is a popular destination for both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. It is the site where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment and advocated the essence of life and where Lord Vishnu of Hinduism preached the reality of death.
According to Lertruth Akrapaspong, managing director of Confidence Travel Service Co Ltd, about 30,000 Thai pilgrims visit Gaya every year.
The travel agent, with 18 years of experience in the tourism business in India and Nepal, said that since the direct flights began, the number of pilgrims to Gaya every year had risen to 300,000.
Mr Lertruth said that up to 2,000 visitors came to Gaya each day during the low season from February to October, increasing to around 10,000 per day in the high season from November to January.
